Jesus Ferreira’s Hat Trick Versus St. Kitts Earned Him A Spot On The Elite USMNT List

ST. The United States of America defeated St. Kitts and Nevis by a score of 6-0, equaling its largest margin of victory in the Gold Cup. Jesus Ferreira scored a hat trick.

When they took on the tiny Caribbean nation, which was making its first appearance in the Gold Cup, the Americans were clear favorites, and they won the game quickly. In the 12th minute, Djordje Mihailovic scored his first international goal since 2019, and Bryan Reynolds and Ferreira made it 3-0 less than four minutes later.

Ferreira’s second gave the U.S. a telling 4-0 halftime lead, however with an objective differential sudden death round against Jamaica liable to decide the gathering champ, the group had more to play for. He completed the hat trick with a neat finish in the 50th minute, becoming the fastest player from the United States to score ten goals in 20 international games. Shortly thereafter, Brandon Vazquez took his place.

Ferreira joins Clint Dempsey as the second player in USMNT history to have multiple games in which he scores three or more goals in a competitive match. This comes on the heels of his four-goal performance against Grenada in the Nations League last year. He’s the fifth USMNT player to have at least two profession full go-arounds, joining Landon Donovan (3), Jozy Altidore (2), Peter Millar (2) and Dempsey (2).

In the 79th minute, Mihailovic scored his second goal to complete the scoring, and he almost scored another in the game’s final moments.

The U.S. and Jamaica are now tied for first place in Group A with four points each, but the U.S. leads by three goals against. Prior to the United States’ victory in St. Louis, Jamaica defeated Trinidad and Tobago 4-1.

In Charlotte, North Carolina, on Sunday, the United States finishes group play against Trinidad and Tobago.
