More OEMs of smartphones are joining the foldable clamshell industry or making a comeback to it. Huawei launched the Pocket 2 in China only this month, while ZTE introduced a similar that will be marketed in other countries as the Nubia Flip 5G and Libero Flip, both of which include Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 chipsets. Avenir Telecom has also developed the Energizer Ultimate U660S, which it showcased at MWC 2024.

For background, Avenir Telecom has been selling smartphones bearing the Energizer brand under licence since 2010. The company recently extended this agreement until 2030. In any case, the 6.67-inch FHD+ internal display of the Energizer Ultimate U660S is allegedly crossed by a 25 MP camera, according to Avenir Telecom. The 64 MP and 8 MP rear-facing cameras on the Ultimate U660S are also rumoured to be located adjacent to what looks to be a small cover display. The phone is allegedly powered by a MediaTek Helio G99 CPU, 12 GB of RAM, and 256 GB of storage.

Put differently, the Energizer Ultimate U660S is going to be among the least potent clamshell foldables available. In particular, our benchmark database shows that there is about a 25% difference between the Helio G99 and Snapdragon 7 Gen 1. The Energizer Ultimate U660S is rumoured to be released by Avenir Telecom in November 2024 for €449.99, undercutting ZTE’s planned $599 price tag for the Nubia Flip 5G.

The former, however, has a considerably older design and, when closed, has a noticeable space between its two sections. It is important to note that Avenir Telecom has experience with the Power Max P8100S. Avenir Telecom stated that the gadget was intended for release in November 2019, but the business later cancelled it after showcasing it at MWC 2019 alongside other smartphones.
