Disney’s Upcoming Films ‘Mandalorian & Grogu’ and ‘Toy Story 5’, ‘Tron’ Will be Released in Theaters

The Walt Disney Company unveiled their updated theatrical schedule on Friday. Before the end of 2026, there will be a movie about Grogu and the Mandalorians, a fifth “Toy Story” picture, and another “Tron” movie.

Following epidemic shutdowns and two separate worker strikes in Hollywood, the company’s theatrical industry has suffered as productions have stagnated and moviegoers’ box office habits have changed. Disney continued to have trouble connecting with viewers, which made their financial problems worse.

CEO Bob Iger has been trying to turn around Disney since taking over again in late 2022. He has acknowledged that in an effort to produce a large volume of entertaining material, the quality of its films degraded.

He suggested that more care should be used in deciding which sequels are produced, especially for companies like Marvel.

Iger further declared that he would no longer put up with his company’s collaborators and creative team putting messaging ahead of narrative.

Disney’s revamped schedule includes films aimed at an adult audience in addition to numerous classic properties.

The studio’s “Moana” sequel has been notably delayed until July 2026. The initial plan was for it to open in 2025.

Oscar winner Rami Malek stars in the 20th-century production “The Amateur,” which was originally scheduled for November 2024 but was rescheduled for April 2025. Additionally, Amy Adams’ Searchlight film “Nightbitch” is scheduled for release in December 2024.

Disney hinted that the legendary pair from its Disney+ series “The Mandalorian” would appear in one of its 2026 Star Wars movies, revealing the film’s title as “The Mandalorian & Grogu.” On May 22, 2026, it is scheduled for theatrical release.

On June 19, 2026, a fifth “Toy Story” movie will open in theaters, and on October 10, 2025, “Tron: Ares” will follow.
