Moondrop MIAD 01: Mid-Range Specifications at a Reasonably Priced, Audio-Centric Smartphone

In China, the Moondrop MIAD 01 has been fully revealed. With a few features geared towards audiophiles, it’s the first phone from the audio-focused brand. The smartphone’s two headphone ports on top are one of them. The first is a balanced 4.4 mm jack, while the second is a 3.5 mm single-ended jack. The balanced jack provides 4Vrms of output, while the first provides 2Vrms.

In addition, the quad-channel dual Cirrus Logic MasterHiFi DACs are a feature of the audiophile Android phone. Although Moondrop hasn’t stated which model precisely, the CS43198 may be it. As a result, the MIAD 01 can provide a 118 dB SINAD and a dynamic range of 132 dB. High-end portable DACs and amplifiers frequently have these figures (FiiO Q3 currently retails for $85.95 on Amazon).

However, there are more functions with an auditory focus. The Moondrop MIAD 01 features a six-layer gold-sinking independent circuit and a separate LDO power source. Adjusting the DAC volume at the hardware level gives you even more control. DSP capabilities are also included in the associated Moondrop Audio Centre app. Because of all of these, the smartphone is an excellent portable player.

Regarding the phone component, the MediaTek Dimensity 7050, a mid-range eight-core CPU, powers the company’s first smartphone. This CPU is matched with 12 GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 256 GB of UFS 3.1 storage. Despite appearing to have just one configuration, the MIAD 01 has a dedicated microSD card slot. Up to 2 TB of storage can be added, which is more than sufficient to accommodate a sizable collection of FLAC files.

The MIAD 01 has two cameras mounted on its back. Moondrop has not disclosed the specifications of the secondary camera, however the main sensor is a 64 MP device. Most likely, it’s a standard depth sensor. A 32 MP selfie camera and a 6.7-inch OLED screen are located on the front. This display features 1920 Hz PWM dimming, 120 Hz refresh rate, and 1080p resolution.

The Moondrop MIAD 01’s software, which guarantees no data collecting or advertisements, is based on stock Android. The phone’s 5000 mAh battery, 33W rapid charging capability, and 5 Gbps USB 3.1 port are among its other standout features. In China, the smartphone is presently offered for CNY 2,499, or around $345. Prices and availability for other countries are not yet verified.
