July 3, 2025 – Honor has officially announced the launch of the Magic V5, its latest foldable smartphone, setting a new benchmark in mobile design by claiming the title of the world’s thinnest inward-folding device. The announcement was made during a product event in China, where the company also revealed the device’s specifications, pricing, and plans for global availability.
According to Honor, the Magic V5 measures 8.8mm when folded and just 4.1mm when unfolded, with the Ivory White variant being the slimmest. The phone weighs only 217 grams, making it not only the thinnest but also among the lightest foldable smartphones in its category. This design makes the Magic V5 a significant contender in the increasingly competitive foldable segment.
Dual OLED Displays with Exceptional Brightness
The Magic V5 features a 7.95-inch foldable LTPO OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and peak brightness of up to 5000 nits. The cover screen, measuring 6.43 inches, uses the same OLED technology and refresh rate, ensuring a consistent visual experience whether the phone is folded or unfolded.
These specifications place the Magic V5 among the brightest and most vibrant foldable smartphones currently available.
Flagship Performance with Snapdragon 8 Gen 3
Powering the Magic V5 is the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Elite Edition processor, paired with up to 16GB of RAM and 1TB of internal storage. This configuration provides users with top-tier performance for multitasking, gaming, and productivity.
The smartphone runs on MagicOS 9.0.1, offering a suite of AI-driven features, including the YOYO voice assistant, motion-sickness relief modes, and on-device generative AI tools designed to enhance daily tasks.
Battery and Charging Capabilities
Honor has equipped the Magic V5 with a 6,100mAh silicon-carbon battery in its Chinese version, while the global model will come with a 5,820mAh unit. Both variants support 66W wired fast charging and 50W wireless charging, offering one of the most robust battery systems in a foldable device to date.
Camera System with AI Enhancement
The rear camera setup includes a 50MP primary sensor, a 50MP ultra-wide-angle lens, and a 64MP periscope telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom and AI-powered digital zoom. The device also features dual 20MP front cameras—one on the outer screen and one on the foldable inner display—supporting high-quality selfies and video conferencing.
Build Quality and Durability
Despite its slim form factor, the Magic V5 maintains structural integrity through a carbon-fiber hinge design, internal lightweight shielding, and use of “self-healing” materials. The phone also holds an IP58/IP59 rating, providing resistance to water and dust.
Pricing and Availability
The Honor Magic V5 is now available in China, with a starting price of ¥8,999 (approximately $1,240 USD or ₹1,05,000) for the 12GB + 256GB base variant. Additional configurations, including models with up to 1TB of storage, are also available.
Honor has confirmed that global availability is expected to begin in the second half of 2025, with further details on international pricing and specifications to follow.
Strategic Market Positioning
The launch of the Magic V5 positions Honor competitively against other major players in the foldable space, such as Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold, Google Pixel Fold, and Vivo X Fold series. By combining a minimalist profile with premium hardware and software features, the Magic V5 aims to capture both tech-savvy consumers and style-conscious buyers.
